Schools Project - hello to teachers!
« on: October 22, 2015, 02:37:00 PM »
Hello everyone  :)

As you may have read in our latest Newsletter - copy found here http://newcastlesoftheworld.com/ - the 2015/2016 schools project has begun with many schools from around the world making one-to-one partnerships and exploring all of our different places.

I have suggested that teachers may like to sign up to our forum to discuss and share ideas.  Therefore this post serves as a welcome to any teachers that may have just signed up and want to know more!

At the moment we don't have a dedicated Schools section of the forum but if teachers find this a useful way to stay in touch (rather than, or as well as, email and Facebook) then perhaps this is something we can look into with Robert from Nove Hrady whose fine work led to the creation of this forum.

If you are a teacher new to this forum -  :D WELCOME!! :D -  please say hello and we look forward to hearing all about your partnerships.

Best wishes

Mo

Hello everyone

I wanted to share with you the fantastic work of Marie Polakova and her school Gymnázium, Trhové Sviny, in Czech Republic.  The presentation is wonderful, it gives a real sense of the beauty of South Bohemia and this will be shared with the partner school in Jaunpils Novada Domes, Latvia.

I hope you enjoy!

The school work in Czech Republic began with a stimulus idea:  Where do you think they are?  (document attached)

Unfortunately the BBC Class Clips didn't work in the Czech Republic so Maria used www.google.cz (maps, wikipedia, translator).

Maria's students learned how to translate Latvia and Jaunpils into Czech language.  They found the distance between that Latvian town and Newcastles (Nové Hrady) in their region. According to the map they described which part of Europe Latvia is located in and over which countries they would travel to get there. They found other information about Jaunpils and Latvia over the internet and were given homework to prepare presentations and programme for a one-week visit of students from abroad.

Here are some photographs of the children at work:

Congratulations to Marie and the students at Gymnázium, Trhové Sviny for a brilliant start to the project!
