Latvian EU remembrance project on totalitarian experiences
« on: February 19, 2016, 06:18:37 PM »
This is a project proposal for submission under the EU European remembrance strand:

Quote
Relying on totalitarian experiences, applicants shall develop a reflection on the misuses and hijacks of democratic rituals, notably by means of propaganda and official medias. They will focus on the differences between a fake and a real democracy, and underline the benefits of a lively, strong and independent civil society.

The project is being developed by our Latvian friends, under the lead of Zane Ērmane, European Project Manager of the Jaunpils municipality. From the first draft:

Quote
Totalitarian experiences are a reference to Soviet times and therefore to have partners in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Czech Republic (Nove Hrady) and Poland is a good model to partnership building. To add a western dimension would provide a good balance and alternative perspective, in essence the ability to compare and contrast historical governance systems as well as jointly looking forward. Community Action Dacorum UK would be prepared to join the project proposal and provide a Western dimension.

We will update on the progress of this project application next week.
